Carrie

Hello!
We studied this film within class and I believe the whole concept of the film and the narrative is truly nail-biting but captivating. Here are some brief notes about the film Carrie 1976:

The Director is called Brian DePalama and has been making films since the 60s
The film was based upon a Stephen King nobel and was the first Stephen King novel to be brought to film
The film was a major success for the studio grossing over $33m at the US box office
The filming took just 50 days to complete
Not easy identifiable as a horror film as it can be a Drama/Fantasy/Horror
It introduces a 'revenge fantasy' element to horror
Difficult to define - some have considered it as a subversion of the Cinderella tale
The Prom scene took over 2 weeks to shoot with 35 takes

Interesting facts
The name of the high school in the film is Bates High in homage to Psycho
Carrie is one of only a few 'horror' films to have received numerous Academy Award nominations
Depalma is well known for being heavily influenced by Alfred Hitchcock

Brief description of  the narrative:
Carrie White (who is the main character) is the outsider of her class and she is a mousy girl, all of her classmates hate her, and her mother is a religious fanatic who walks around in a black cape. After she unexpectedly has her first period, she is teased by the girls more ruthlessly than before. The gym teacher punishes the girls that were involved and one of them, Sue Snell, feels sorry for what she did and asks her boyfriend to take Carrie to the prom instead of her. But another girl that has been banned from the prom, Chris Hargenson, isn't so forgiving and hatches an evil plan with her boyfriend that involves Carrie and a bucket full of pig's blood. But what none of the students realize is that Carrie has the power of telekinesis, the power to move things with your mind, and that when you make her mad, she transforms from an innocent girl to a rage-filled monster which is conveyed through the remainder of the film.

Here is the trailer for Carrie in which picks out key moments from the film without ruining the storyline:
